What’s involved with this role:
Network Services includes the monitoring, configuration, support, maintenance and change of all network infrastructure components delivered by the ICT Shared Service and its service partners. This includes, internet and other external links, Wide Area and Local Area Network communications, firewalls, core sites including the data centre, computer communications locations and network points of presence such as masts and dishes at 3rd party locations. The service will also provide technical resource to project managers to deliver any projects with infrastructure components, both directly and via the use of sourcing partners.
Log and own all incidents and requests relating to IT systems and services and manage them through to restoration or resolution in accordance with the service level agreements to meet the business needs. Provide regular updates on progress of incidents and requests to internal and external customers. On restoration of service or completion of service request ensure that the customer is satisfied that the service has been restored before closing the incident\service request.
The Network Configuration Management post is responsible for ensuring that the network is configured to suit business requirements. This will involve:
Routing
Network separation (inc, VLANs and Tunnelling)
Firewall management
ACLs
Network links and communication equipment.
The role will involve substantial work on both operational support and working on new technology projects and will cover (but is not limited to) the following technical areas:
Installations
Upgrades
Config changes (inc, routing and VLANS)
Firewalls
VPNs
Procurement and supplier liaison
Working with project managers to develop solutions to fulfil business requirements
Take direct accountability for the specific technologies required /identified within the job title.
Provide hands-on technical resource to ensure service is maintained to agreed Service Levels and projects are delivered.
Be self motivated in ensuring that technical knowledge is kept up to date (self development), liaising with partners and vendors to do so.
Understand the broader context of the technical area for which you are accountable, considering all options to deliver the most appropriate solutions to the service and its clients. I.e. in-house, 3rd party hosted, private cloud, hybrid solutions, sharing etc.
Take ownership and resolve incidents and problems which occur directly and indirectly as a consequence of technology, process or skills/knowledge deficiencies, relevant to your area of technical ownership, within the service (i.e. not just the team).
Understand the technology direction for the service and apply this to technical designs and solutions.
Work closely with the Operational Assurance Team to ensure that all changes (operational and project) comply with the minimum service standards and that service risk wheels and the service excellence process are a key area of focus.
Ensure that the currency of the technology estate is maintained, highlighting operational requirements to refresh or replace technology to the owner of the essential replacement/maintenance programme.
Prioritise and clearly account for work. Ensure that time recording on run and change activities are accurately reflected.
Ensure that licensing and asset management for your specific technology area is accurate, up to date and compliant by working closely with the Operational Assurance Team.

UK working experience

Appropriate degree or evidence of ability to work at that level
Appropriate ICT Technical or Business qualification
Significant recent network configuration management experience, preferably within a similar role and ideally within a public sector organisation
Significant contribution to the development and implementation of ICT and business change plans.
Working within a formal project management methodology (e.g. PRINCE2).
Working within a Quality Management Framework
Microsoft Office skills

Anticipated Length of Assignment: All of our roles are designated temporary, though in practice we find that the vast majority of them get extended on a multiple/long term basis. This one is expected to be for 2-3 months, initially.
Hours per week: 35-37 (tbc) Monday – Friday, 08:00 – 17:00
